Robert was born on April 24, 1967 in Jacksonville, Florida to Rufino Retiro Duran Jr. and Carmelita Marte Fernandez Duran and grew up in Spain, Iceland, San Francisco, and San Jose. He graduated from Oak Grove High School and San Jose State University, earning his bachelor’s degree in Economics. Robert was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Robert met his wife Liz through friends in 1999 and they were married in Santa Barbara on May 28, 2005 and have lived in Encinitas since 2006. Robert is survived by his father, wife, children Tyler and Lauren, sister Arleen (Dave) Duran Goza and their children Isabel and Jack, sister Amy (Nick) Labao and their sons Noah, Nate, and Mason, and aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who all miss him dearly.
Robert worked in the cyber security industry and in his spare time he enjoyed cycling, hiking and exploring new trails with his family, and going for early morning drives along the coast in his ‘69 Porsche. He volunteered his time raising awareness and funds for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), an organization dedicated to fighting pancreatic cancer through research, patient services, and advocacy. Robert was an inspiration to many people, including his friends, family, and those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
A memorial service will be held in Encinitas for family and friends.
