Michael Vargo Jr., 86, of Englewood, Florida, and formerly of Windham, Maine and Milford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025.
Born in Ransom, Pennsylvania on November 3, 1938, Michael was the son of the late Michael Vargo Sr. and Margaret Kasich. He was a proud graduate of Newton Ransom High School, Class of 1956.
In service to his country, Michael enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on September 29, 1958, and honorably served until September 28, 1962, achieving the rank of Corporal (E-4).
Throughout his career, Michael worked for several respected companies, including Avco Lycoming, S.D. Warren, and Richardson’s Boat Yard. He also served for many years as President of the Englewood Car Club, where he shared his love of automobiles and community with fellow enthusiasts.
Michael found joy in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with family and friends. His life was defined by quiet dedication, hard work, and deep loyalty to those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Alexander Vargo; and his first wife, Sally Vargo Leonard.
Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Nancy Vargo; his brother, George Vargo; and his daughters: Deborah Vargo, Christine Weymouth, and Michele Matera. He leaves behind four cherished grandchildren: Mark Matera, Nicolas Matera, Jonathan Weymouth, and Samantha White, as well as four beloved great-grandchildren: Hailey and Grace White, and Hannah and Julia Weymouth.
A private wake for immediate family will be held on July 22, 2025. Michael will be laid to rest with military honors at Sarasota National Cemetery on Clark Road in Sarasota, Florida. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Kays, Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Tidewell Hospice in Michael’s memory.
