

SIMMONS, Nathaniel “Nate”, 87 made his peaceful transition from this life on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Friendship Village Nursing Home in Dayton, Ohio. He was born April 14, 1924, the union of Lincoln and Eva (nee Belcher) Simmons in Eckman, WV. Nate moved to Lorain, Ohio in 1951 and married Shirley Golden. Together they reared seven children, five girls and two boys. Nate was employed by National Tube Plant/US Steel Lorain Works in the Blast Furnace department as a First Helper/Keeper for 30 plus years. He enjoyed walking, playing the numbers, food and coffee. He received Christ and was baptized in 2010. Nathaniel leaves to honor and cherish his memory his wife Shirley, daughters, Barbara (Manuel) Coleman of Lorain, OH, Vivian Simmons, Rose Marie Simmons of Columbus, OH, Natalie Simmons of Dayton, OH, sons Nathaniel (Stella) Simmons of Lorain, OH and Jerome (Annie) Simmons of Atlanta, GA. Sister Betty Jane (nee Simmons) Simms of Newark, NJ. Fifteen grandchildren, eight plus great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lincoln and Eva (nee Belcher) Simmons, brother Leonard “Jesse” Simmons, William “Lester” Simmons, Lowell Simmons and sister Jeanette (nee Simmons) Thomas, daughter Rita Simmons, grandsons Jekari Simmons, Manuel “Jody” Coleman, Jerry Simmons. Nathaniel’s family will receive friends at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME ENGLEWOOD CHAPEL, 675 West Wenger Road, Englewood, Ohio, Wednesday, evening December 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Mr. Simmons’ Homecoming Services will be 11:00 am Thursday, December 15 with Pastor Dennis R. Johnson presiding, burial will follow in West Memory Gardens.
