Jocelyn Grace Haynes was born in Melbourne, Australia on July 26, 1923. “Joy”, as she was known by her family and many friends, was the eldest child of Arthur and Grace Bolton and sister to her beloved late brother, Stuart Bolton. She met her first husband, Air Force officer Peter J. Kosh, when he was on leave in Melbourne while serving in WWII’s Pacific Theater.
After the War, Joy immigrated to the United States to be with her husband. As an Air Force wife she accompanied him through numerous postings across the U.S. while raising two daughters, finally settling in San Bernardino, CA. Widowed in 1983, Joy went back to college, obtained her AA degree and worked in the San Bernardino County Probation Department. She pursued many interests: she was a talented seamstress, an accomplished amateur artist and a gifted vocalist. She was also an avid reader and loved swimming, tennis and being outdoors. She was active in her church, where she met her second husband, Ian T. Haynes. They had much in common, including their international backgrounds and a love of travel, which took them to Great Britain, Europe, Australia and Hawaii. They lived for a number of years in Bakersfield, CA before retiring to Estill Springs, TN. In Estill Springs, the couple enjoyed a busy church and social life with many friends. Joy lent her lovely soprano voice to her church choir and volunteered teaching English as a second language. After the death of her beloved husband Ian, Joy moved back to California to be near to her family. We were blessed to have her close for four precious years before she passed peacefully on September 13, 2014.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Wiggins (Alan Wiggins), San Diego, CA, and Pamela Trujeque, San Bernardino, CA; grandson Richard Tripp (Angela Mellinger), great-grandsons Evan & Ian Tripp, Lake Havasu City, AZ; granddaughter Angela Rowe (James Rowe), Goleta CA; stepson Ian D. Haynes (Elizabeth Haynes), step-grandsons Geoffrey & Rob Haynes, Ontario, Canada; and step-daughter Michelle Palladine, Palm Springs, CA.
We will forever miss Joy’s indomitable spirit, her elegance and endearing humor, her lively intelligence and the “joy” and delight she brought to her family and many friends.
Mother, the ribbons of your love are woven around my heart. ~Author Unknown
