

Jose is survived by his wife, Guadalupe Rios de Zapata of Cypress, Texas; children, Jose Zapata and wife Sarah of McGregor, Texas, Marisol Herrera and husband Victor of San Diego, California, Estrella Zapata of San Diego, California, and Moses Zapata and wife Jennifer of Los Angeles, California; sisters Maria de Los Angeles Rodriguez, Rosa Maria Marroquin, Gloria Margarita Rosas, Bertha Ruth Johnson, and Blanca Estela Gomez; brother Jose Luis Zapata; grandchildren, Jose David, Alexis, Lilly, Caleb, Mateo, Emilio, Angel, Corrina, Deztenie, Anthony, Arriana, and Fabian. He is preceded in death by his mother Adelaida, father Rodolfo, and brother Juan Manuel.
Jose was born on November 28th, 1955 in Brownsville, Texas to Adelaida and Rodolfo. He married Guadalupe his sweetheart in 1977. The couple welcomed four children into their home and set about teaching them a strong work ethic and a love for sports. His children fondly remember Sunday brunches after church and fun afternoons at the park. They remember him as a caring father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Jose was an amazing Husband, Father, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Marine, and friend who had a great impact on all the lives around him. Jose's fun-loving personality always brought entertainment and smiles to the room. He enjoyed spending time with Guadalupe, family, and supporting his many grandkids in all their activities as well as working outside with landscaping and making everything beautiful. Everyone knew Jose as a loving, outgoing, joyful, dedicated, and hard-working person.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 14th, 2021, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Escondido, 1170 S Broadway Escondido, CA 92025. For those who wish, flowers are welcome at McLeod Mortuary, 1919 E Valley Pkwy, Escondido, CA 92027; address to ‘Services for Jose Zapata’.
