Steven Carl Inman, age 57, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido Ca. Steve was born April 17, 1955 to Carl and Bonita (Morris) Inman. Steve was the first born of 5 children and the only boy. Steve was a 1974 graduate of Kearny High School where he was on the 1973/1974 varsity rifle team as a sharp shooter. His rifle team attended the state championship where they were the CIF winners in 1974. Steve was also in ROTC and graduated with the rank of first sergeant. Upon graduating, Steve attended a trade school for specialized training to be an automotive mechanic in Watertown, South Dakota. To further his skills, he joined U.S. Air Force and was a jet engine mechanic with the rank of Sergeant. While in the Air Force Steve received many commendations including a good conduct medal, Air Force training ribbon, small arms expert marksmanship ribbon and overseas long tour ribbon. His unit also received an outstanding unit award. After his honorable discharge, Steve worked as an automotive mechanic, and would eventually be employed as a fleet mechanic for the City of San Diego for 21 years.
Steve enjoyed simple pleasures; watching NASCAR, movies, time with his dog Chico, and assembling model airplanes and ships. Cars were a passion of Steve's since he was a little boy, so now the heavens have a top-notch mechanic and he’ll be happy to be able to find the parts he needs that are always in stock in Heaven. Steve had an ability to connect with people on a personal level and was always willing to lend an ear to those who needed it. His kindhearted ways and generous nature were something to be admired. These were just a few of his many special gifts. He was a reserved person, but when he was among family and friends, he was a jokester and had a contagious laugh and fun spirit. Though he is physically gone from our sight, he remains alive in our hearts minds and souls and our memories of Steve will forever be a source of comfort to us. We consider our brother a real hero.
Steve is survived by his father, Carl Inman; 4 sisters, Dianne Sonnenfelt, Nanci Taylor, Lisa Adams, and Aime Inman Cox; brother in-laws Greg Cox, Bob Sonnenfelt and Mike Adams. Steve also had many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. We will miss our brother Steve very much and although he left us way too soon, Steve left a part of himself in all of us. We know that Steve is with our mother who just passed 4 months ago and they are watching over us.
