Don passed away on March 24, 2013, after a brief illness. He was born in Scotia, CA and was schooled and raised in Richmond, CA. Don served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, and saw duty in the South Pacific.
After the war he returned to Eureka and was involved in the start-up and running of the Humboldt Bay Power Plant. He retired after 38 years.
In 1965 he met and married Irene Adams, who would change his life forever. Irene was the best thing that could have ever happened to him. The 48 years they were married they always acted like 2 little love birds, and they truly were.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Fredrick and Nellie, his sisters’ Lillian and Bert, brothers Fred and Ray.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, and his daughter Eloise Shaha (Dennis), his grandkids Louie Shaha (Sabrina), Chanda Shaha (Todd), his great grandkids Jordyn, Brady Maddison, Grace and Sophia.
After retiring Don and Irene went to AZ for 30 years where they enjoyed life to the fullest by dancing, RVing, playing tennis, and making life long friends along the way.
A public visitation will be held at Pierce Mortuary on Thursday, March 28th from 2-6pm. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Monday, April 1 at 12 noon. A committal service at Ocean View Cemetery will be held immediately after Mass.
