Doris Fern Boughton, 91, passed away in her sleep in the early morning hours of January 18, 2012 after a long, graceful struggle with Alzheimer's. She was born Doris Nabakowski on July 25, 1920, in Hermosa Beach, California to Charles Nabakowski and Winifred Chamberlain Nabakowski.
She married Joseph Firman Boughton November 28, 1938. They lived in numerous small towns in Southern Oregon and Northern California before settling in the company town of Korbel in 1952. She was in charge of the Korbel Post Office for many years.
Doris was preceded in death by her mother and father, Charles Nabakowski and Winifred Chamberlain Nabakowski; husband, Joseph Boughton; brother Donald Nabakowski; and sisters Margaret, married to Bud Valk; Eleanor, married to Walt Ambers; and Eunice, married to Jack Shiro.
Doris is survived by her sons Joel Boughton and wife Karla; Gary Boughton and wife Macie, all of Eureka, CA; grandson Gregg Boughton and wife Denise, great-grandchildren Kyle and Alexa Boughton; grandchildren Sarah Garrett; Emily Boughton and son Matthew; Mary, Andrew and Alex Boughton; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews as well as adopted grandchildren and great-grandchildren all of whom loved Doris.
After Joe retired, Doris left the Post Office to be free for golf outings. She loved her husband, Joseph, very much. They enjoyed taking trips to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Hawaii. Doris was a longtime member of the Eureka Municipal Golf Course, The Missionary Society, and Eastern Star.
Being widowed at a somewhat young age, Doris filled her time visiting friends, gardening and making snacks to play card games with the grandchildren. She was faithful to the Blue Lake Community Church and enjoyed Pastor Cary Houston.
The family would like to thank Chun and Michael Watts and the wonderful staff of Hall Avenue Care Home for the outstanding care provided to their beloved Mother. Grateful thanks also goes to Hospice of Humboldt. The entire family is indebted to grandson, Gregg Boughton, for the constant loving time he spent with his Grandmother.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Doris's honor to Hospice of Humboldt, Blue Lake Community Church, or a charity of your choice .
