

McCovey Bacon "Mom, Grandma, Old Grandma, Auntie and Friend" "Another star shines in the sky for our family" Elsie McCovey Bacon passed away peacefully in her home on August 13, 2010 at the age of 82 surrounded by family and friends. The youngest baby girl born to Isaac McCovey and Elsie Gray McCovey on May 17, 1928 at their home in Johnson Village, California. Elsie married the love of her life, Gaylon "Scotty" Bacon. Devoted parents to; Gerald "Squeaker" Bacon (Melissa), Bonnie "Hoddy" Green (Richard Sr.), Carmen "Boo Boo" Mauroni (David), Marjorie Durbin (Roger), Raymond Bacon (Diane), Gaylon Bacon (Linda), Joseph Bacon (Pam) and their son at heart John Radford. Proud "Grandma" to Scottie Jean, Little Elsie, Little Gerald, Gerald, Tracy, Rich Jr., Cindy, Tonya, Cinya, Tony, Charlie, Christopher, Debbie, Angie, Jason, Danny, Raymond Jr., and Brandy. Loving "Old Grandma" to Davey, Juaquin, Yecinia, Catalina, Dominic, Kyle, Morgan, Madison, Tristan, Alexis, Emily, Luca, Josie, Leslie, Tracy Jr., Jacob, Richie III, Corinne, Allie, Matt, Aneesia, Brandon, Jaiden, Alyssa, Noah, Jonah, Clayton, Shawn, William, Cody, Alex, Bailey, Evan, Soren, Tobin and Josiah. In addition, Elsie is survived by her sister-in-law Lena McCovey Nicholson. Nieces: Fawn Morris, Bernice Roubidoux, Carmen Moon, Sid McCovey, Theresa McCovey, Judy McCovey, Phyliss McCovey and Vivian Simpson with whom she shared a special bond. Nephews: Chuck Williams, Frank McCovey, Chetty McCovey, Lincoln McCovey, Leonard McCovey and Arden McCovey. Along with hundreds of great-nieces and great-nephews. Her thoughtfulness and love will be felt forever by many. She never failed to say "I love you" and her final words to everyone was "May God Bless You". She was a leader to her tribe and her community. She was a founding board member of United Indian Health Services, Indian Action Council and the American Indian Constitutional Rights Institution. She served on the California Indian Legal Services Board, and the Humboldt County Grand Jury. Elsie was very instrumental in the Jessie Short Case. She will always be remembered for her loving ways, cheerful personality and her tenacious support of UIHS and CRIHB. Her life spanned an era of great change, yet her values of faith, family, community and service endured. She received the "Female Honored Elders" Award. It reads "For her years of outstanding commitment and willingness to teach and share the values of traditional Indian health to all Indians of California". She recently received an Award for 40 years of service from UIHS. She is now in heaven with God, our Dad, their son Little Gaylon, grandsons Lucas and David, siblings George, Ethel, Sadie, Sylvia, Ted, Marjorie, Lillian and her parents Isaac and Elsie. Right now they are having a joyful Reunion. Paul Bearers will be Michael Mahoney, Seth Senestraro, Chris Gwen, Tristan Green, Richie Green III, Little Gerald Bacon, David Hunter, David Jambois Sr., David Jambois Jr., Sean Simpson, Chad Haberman, Shane Haberman, Ernie Moser, Skylar Moser and Marshall Moser. Honorary Bearers will be Danny Vienna, Joe Vienna, Gary Haberman, Richard Haberman, Frankie McCovey, Chetty McCovey, Lincoln McCovey, Leonard McCovey, Arden McCovey, Chuck Williams, Johnnie Simpson, Jerry Simone, Tom Hannah and Tom Gates. She was loved and cared for during these last months by her daughters Carmen Mauroni and Diane Bacon. Granddaughters Tracy, Cindy, Josie, Dolls, and Junior. She was especially loved by her son-in-law Richard Green who has been devoted to her for many years. Visitation Friday, August 20, 2010, from 2 to 7. Services will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 10:30 am at Pierce Mortuary. Shaker Services, Burial and Gathering will follow at the Johnson Shaker Church and Cemetery.
