June Francis Kogeler born in Eureka on June first, 1916 passed away in Eureka on July 21st 2013. She attended and graduated from Eureka High School. Mom married Edward Selvage in 1936 and they had two sons, Jerry and John (Jack). In a few years they divorced and she met and married Bob Kogeler.
In the early 1950’s her and Bob took over the “The Goodie Shop” located at Harris and Summer Streets in Eureka. She was one of the first modern “business women“ in Eureka. At The Goodie Shop she taught her sons the early skills of running a business and how to cook and eat a lot of hamburgers, french fries and to serve and consume a lot of ice cream. She later worked with the original owners of Harbor Lanes to plan, open and operate their restaurant.
After retiring from the bowling alley she became bored with retirement and, at the age of 70, began working part time at Burger Time for fun and enjoyed her friendship with owners Roger and Nancy Koehn. Mom loved to knit and had a well known reputation for knitting blankets for her family and friends and particularly her grandchildren.
She always loved family outings and spending a lot of fun time with her lifelong friend Helen Selvage. She and Aunt Helen talked every day for over 70 years. In her later years she unofficially adopted Erica Redmond as “the daughter I never had” and became Erica’s “second Mom”. Mom enjoyed laughter and retained a sharp wit. As her doctor told her many times “she had all her marbles”.
She leaves many good friends behind - way too many to name here. She will be missed.
June was preceded in death by her mother Sadie Copeland, father Royal Proud, sisters Rose Kraft, husband Eddie and their daughter Judy, Violet Badger and her husband Ray and Mom’s brother Clyde Proud. She was also preceded in death by both previous husbands, her son Jerry Selvage, grandsons Kenny Selvage and Jeremy Selvage and granddaughter Tracy Richardson.
