Don graduated from Reitz High School, Class of 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Signal Corps. Don worked 32 years for Bunny Bread, 10 years for Uncle Charlie’s Meat Company, and retired from Lewis Bakery. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish Vanderburgh County, where he was an Eucharistic Minister. Don was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, and bowler. In recent years, he loved viewing wildlife, planting his garden, cooking and watching Fox News. He liked things his way.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Elizabeth Schroeder; son, Mark Schroeder; former wife, Bobbie “Jessie” Schroeder; sister, Beverly Salmon; and brothers, James Schroeder and Raymond Schroeder.
Donald is survived by his wife of 19 years, Delores (Weinzapfel) Helfrich Schroeder; former wife, Mary (Tempel) Schroeder; his children: Jeff Schroeder, Donald Schroeder, Jr. (Dana), and Karen Woodruff (Michael); stepchildren: Jenny Yeley (Dave), Prent Camplin (Jenny), Danny Camplin (LeeAndra), Leisa Sullenger (Randy), Debbie Collins (Jim), Donna Helfrich-Busan, Bill Helfrich (Shannon), Bob Helfrich (Kabreea) and Brian Helfrich (Erin); sisters-in-law, Dorothy Schroeder, and Mary Jane Schroeder; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2019, at St. Joseph Parish Vanderburgh County, 6202 W. St. Joseph Road, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
