He was a simple man involved in living life until his illness. He was the oldest child of Aubrey and Katie (Hunt) Peay of Huntsville, KY. Albert served his family, employer, country, many friends and relatives in a kind and generous way with much dignity and loyalty. He was never judgmental, but always joking. Albert believed that kindness and compassion for others played a huge part of living life. He served his country in Japan after graduating from Rochester High School. He was a Guard at the Sugamo Prison, Japan, where the notorious war criminals were held until their deaths. He returned to the state to marry his sweetheart, Wanda DeArmond Peay. During their marriage of 68 years, they had 5 children. He retired from SIGECO after 38 years of dedicated service. After retirement, Albert and his wife traveled the country for 10 years, seeing many of our national treasures. He had a side business as owner of many properties, which seemed like a hobby to him. Albert was very civic minded, getting involved in many activities at SIGECO, being politically active, belonging to the Hadi Shriners, Scottish Rite, and a lifetime member of the VFW 1114, a Kentucky Colonel, and a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, Morgantown, KY.
He was preceded in death by children, Rollie and Denny Peay; his parents; and brothers, Elbert and Alex.
Albert is survived by his wife of 68 years, Wanda Peay; children, Randy Peay, Clarence Peay, and Angie Francis (Bob); 6 grandchildren, Travis Peay (Vicki), Andy, Tiffany and Shelly Peay, Amy Jarvis (Steve) and Billy Jines (Jessa); 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Aubrey “Joe” Peay, Roscoe Peay (Judy), Tyler Peay (Doris); sisters, Jean Ferrell (Vineyard), and Annie Wester. He was Uncle Albert to several nieces and nephews, and he also has several cousins.
Albert was dearly loved and will be missed by his devoted family. The Soul is immortal and love never dies.
