

Ann Marie (Shewman) Ryan, of Evansville, IN, passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 30, 2013 while on vacation in Nevada. Ann was born on August 21, 1942 in Indianapolis, IN, to the late Alfred and Suzanne (Bauer) Shewman.
She graduated from Saint Mary’s High School, Indianapolis, IN in 1960. She married the late James C. Ryan, Jr. in 1966 at Little Flower Catholic Church. Jim and Ann raised their family in Michigan, moving from DeWitt, where they had lived 19 years, to Howell in 1985, eventually retiring to Crystal River, FL in 2005. After Jim’s passing in 2010, Ann moved closer to family in Evansville, IN.
During her 30-year career with IBM, Ann earned local, regional and national service awards. After retiring from IBM in 2002, Ann kept up her interest with ever evolving technology, from her laptop to iPad to texting her grandchildren on her iPhone. Ann was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church and the Evansville YMCA. She loved her Friday lunches with her friends from the Y and traveling throughout the United States to visit her family. Ann took tremendous pride in keeping connected to her extended family and had a can-do spirit that helped her face and conquer life’s challenges.
She is survived by her daughter, Peg Ryan Howard, and her husband, Richard of Caledonia, MI; son, Jim Ryan, and his wife, Tricia of Newburgh, IN. Ann treasured her five grandchildren, Andrew, Joseph and Elizabeth Howard of Caledonia, MI, and Emma and Hannah Ryan both of Newburgh, IN. Her surviving siblings are Mary Lou Cesla of Tucson, AZ; Thomas Shewman of Placenta, CA; Susan Ball of Loganville, GA; and Joseph Shewman of Clarksville, IN.
A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held for Mrs. Ryan at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2301 N. Stockwell Road, Evansville, IN at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 2013. Internment will be at a later date in Indianapolis, IN.
