

Ann was born on May 1, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the granddaughter of John A Hook, founder of Hook’s Drug Stores and a class of 1954 alumnae of Shortridge High School. Ann dedicated her life to service to her community. She was a wonderful, precious, and extremely giving woman who was a dedicated daughter, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, oftentimes organizing grand parties, outings or vacations for all to enjoy.
Ann passed away as co-owner of the Evansville Gun Club, co-owner of Clearcrest Pines Golf & Banquet Center and was one of the owners of Hook’s Apothecary. Her service to the community in both Evansville and Indianapolis was plentiful and included serving as a Girl Scout Cookie Chairman, PTA officer, benefactor to Master Garden Display Gardens, and served on the Board of Directors of St. Vincent’s Hospital Guild, Indianapolis Humane Society, Indianapolis Humane Society Auxiliary, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Hook’s Antique Pharmacy Museum, Hook’s Foundation, Welborn Memorial Hospital Foundation, Welborn Hospital, Welborn Baptist Foundation and was the organizing Director of the Welborn Foundation where, in 1999, she helped shape the Foundation’s mission in its’ first years. She also helped establish the St. Vincent’s Hospital (Indianapolis) Retail Store and the “Dufflebag” Retail Store for the Boy Scouts of America in Indianapolis. In 2007, the Welborn Foundation recognized her for Outstanding Leadership and Commitment to her community and Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel honored her by declaring December 11, 2007 as “Ann H. Voliva Day”.
Ann also was a great supporter of the sport of trapshooting, actively helping with the endeavors her husband and children and helping out where needed at the Evansville Gun Club, the Indiana State Shoot, the Okoboji Indian Shoot and at countless clubs throughout Indiana. In 1999, she was one of three women honored with the inaugural “Friend of Trapshooting” award presented by the Indiana Trapshooters Association.
Ann is survived by her husband of 38 years, Edward Voliva; daughters Cathy Arwood and Mary Powelson, both of Evansville, IN, and Jane Rexing of Haubstadt, IN; sons John Voliva of Missouri City, TX and Edward Voliva III of Newburgh, IN; nine grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Marguerite (Bowers) Hook and August F. “Bud” Hook and grandson, Nicholas Powelson.
Friends may visit from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Alexander Funeral Home – North Chapel, Evansville, IN. Funeral services will be private for family only.
