Beverly Anne (Basham) Anson, 89, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014, at her home. She was born August 7, 1924, in Evansville, to the late Oliver and Jewel (Prince) Basham, the first of their three daughters.
She grew up in Howell and graduated from Reitz High School in 1942. Reitz is also where she met the love of her life and husband, Harry Anson. They were married in 1943 and shared 53 wonderful years together until his death in 1996. Together they traveled the world extensively. In her younger days they also enjoyed square dancing together. She could sew anything and even made her own dresses for square dancing competitions. She was an excellent cook who prepared delicious meals from scratch, often using vegetables from the garden she and Harry grew. She was employed in the accounting department at Faultless Caster for almost 30 years. They were long time members of Christian Fellowship Church, where she also worked as a bookkeeper for four years. After retirement they moved to Plant City, FL. She returned to Evansville almost five years ago so her family could help with her care as her Alzheimer’s progressed.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Harry; and sister, Sue Ziccardi.
She is survived by her daughter, Cyndi (Wayne) Zinn; granddaughters, Amy (Jason) Merkley and Carey (Joe) Sloan; great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Jacob, Madelyn and Chelsea Merkley; sister, Pat Hausman; and two nieces and one nephew.
Private services will be held Monday, June 30, 2014, at Alexander Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Steve Stewart.
The family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice for their help in Beverly’s final months, especially her nurse, Casey. Also thanks to Anne, Mandy and Kate for their invaluable assistance. She also enjoyed the visits from the chaplain, Randy, who lifted her spirits by singing and reading scripture to her.
Memorial contributions may be made to Vanderburgh Humane Society. Condolences may be online at www.AlexanderWestChapel.com.
