Beverly ("Bev") J. Salmon, 92, died peacefully on November 12, 2025, in Evansville, Indiana. She was born on October 18, 1933, in Aurora, Nebraska, and preceded in death by her parents, Clair Eugene "Shorty" Zehr (the son of Joel and Gertie (Peterson) Zehr) and Alyda (Toof) Zehr (the daughter of Harry and Sarah (McKern) Toof). She was also preceded in death by her husband of 68 ½ years, James E. Salmon, her daughter-in-law, Melindie Curtis-Salmon, her brother, Richard ("Rick") Zehr, and her stepmother, Evelyn Cox Williams.
She is survived by her two sons, Brad (Kim) Salmon and Bret Salmon; her special caregiver, Angela Derrington; and sister-in-law, Connie Zehr. Grandma "Bev" loved her grandchildren "a bushel and a peck": Tara Salmon, Kelsey (Sam) Gerhardt, Taylor (Tyler) Bliha, Sam (Alli) Curtis and Jake (Elizabeth) Curtis. Three great grandchildren also survive: Maggie Gerhardt, Gus Gerhardt, and Amelia Curtis.
Bev graduated from high school in Aurora, Nebraska, and attended some classes at the University of Nebraska. After moving to Evansville, Bev worked as a safety patrol mom for Highland and Thompkins schools, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, ELKO Kitchen and Bath Center before her employment at Whirlpool FCU. Following her "retirement", Bev worked at Lazarus where she routinely spent more each week than her weekly paycheck.
She enjoyed sports including golfing (and her hole-in-one) and was an avid supporter of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the St. Louis Cardinals. Although Bev enjoyed playing mahjong, bridge and putting together jigsaw puzzles, every family outing included a game of Zioncheck - a card game similar to shanghai rummy. Bev loved dogs, especially poodles, and her current best buddy, Skye, survives her as well. Bev was a 66-year member of Old North United Methodist Church where she served on several boards and committees.
The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Bev in her final days. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in her memory to the Old North United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life service on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Old North UMC. Visitation with the family will be between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. immediately before the ceremony. Interment will occur in Aurora, Nebraska, at a later date.
