

He served in the US Marine Corps for 24 years and served in the Korean War, the Chosin Reservoir and belonged to the Chosin Few Survivors. He also served three tours in Vietnam. Following his military career, Calvin retired from Allstate Insurance after 30 years of service, and also during this time, volunteered for the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department as a reserve deputy. He was a member of First Christian Church in Mt. Vernon, IN. Calvin was also a member of Reed Lodge, Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine, VFW Post #1114 where he was past commander, DAV, Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 5, Mt. Vernon Moose Lodge, Kentucky Colonels and the FRA.
Calvin was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence Ashley, Clarence Lee Ashley and sister, Mildred Jean Clark.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jane Ashley; daughters, Ginger (Brian) Talsma, Kimberly Ashley, Wendie (Adam) Miller and Cheryl (Chance) Farmer; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Elsie Sullivan, Kathleen Vonallman and Nell Kidd; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Pastor John Hilbert, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Wednesday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
