Carole Diane Garrett Culver, 72, of Indianapolis, IN passed away quietly with family and friends by her side on Sunday, July 1, 2018. Carole was born in Evansville, IN on July 31, 1945. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Ernest Bill Garrett and Lucy Bell Garrett; and brothers Darrell Garrett, Ernest Garrett Jr., Tyrone Garrett, and Charles Garrett.
Carole was a good wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, cousin, grandparent, and friend. Carole was a member of Greater Grace Church in Merrillville, IN. She loved to read, dance, garden and listen to music. Carole worked at Smith &. Butterfield in Evansville for 4 years until she married in 1969 and moved to Gary, IN. Once in Gary she worked at JCPenney for 5 1/2 years before having two wonderful children and becoming a stay at home mom. Once her children became of school age, she began volunteering in school activities and took the office of P.T.A. President. Carole loved the interaction with children so much that she joined the Gary Community School system and worked as a Teacher’s Assistant for 10 1/2 years. In the early 1990’s, Carole moved on from the school system and went to work for the Target Corporation in Merrillville, IN where she retired after 15 1/2 years. In 2015, Carole moved to Indianapolis for health reasons and to be closer to family. In the end, Carole was at peace with God and her life. She expressed her love for her children and grandchildren, and how proud of them she was.
Carole is survived by her husband George L. Culver Jr.; son Gregory Culver (Kelly); daughter Genaya Chambers (Phil); grandchildren Ayden Chambers and Auriel Chambers; siblings Gloria Garrett Stewart, Rose Garrett Rountree (Lewis), Anthony Garrett, Jutton Garrett Causley (Bernard), Gary Garrett (Freda), Debra Garrett Willett (Charles), Sharries Garrett, and Jeffrey Garrett (Mary); Caregivers Nancy Harris, Patty Wilson, and Beverly Culver; Special surrogate daughters Valencia and Veronica Davidson; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Memorial Baptist Church, 645 Canal St., Evansville, IN 47713. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends and family may visit 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Memorial Baptist Church.
