

D. Ray Stone, 90, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at West River Health Campus. He was born April 30, 1927, in Dixon, KY to the late Marian “Pete” Stone and Edith (Brogan) Brown. Early in his childhood he was blessed to be raised by his loving step-mother, Mary (Horstketter) Stone.
He served in the US Army during WWII in Germany. He worked as a mechanic for Hocker Power Brake before retiring after 25 years of service from A & H Truck Lines as a diesel mechanic. Ray served as a Deacon at Garvinwood General Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, song leader, and sang in the quartet, Garvinaires. Above all else, his legacy was to serve the Lord and be the best family man possible.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Patsy (Doench) Stone; twin sons, Jim (Marie) and Randy (Paula) Stone; grandchildren, Jayson, Kristi, Erica, and Adam; Eight great-grandchildren, with a new addition due in March; and siblings, Harold (June) Stone and Carolyn Ann (David) Ryman.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Pastor Terry Gamblin, with entombment in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Saturday from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
