A LETTER FROM HEAVEN...by Ruth Ann Mahaffey
To my dearest family, some things Id like to say. But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay. I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above. Here, there's no more tears of sadness; Here is just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight. Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night. That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through. God picked me up and hugged me and He said, “I welcome you”. Its good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone. As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on. I need you here so badly, you are part of my plan. There is so much that we can do, to help our mortal man. God gave me a list of things that he wished for me to do. And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you. And when you lie in bed at night the days chores put to flight. God and I are closest to you in the middle of the night. When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years. Because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain. Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain. I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned. If I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er. I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before. There are rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; but together we can do it by taking one day at a time. It was always my philosophy and Id like it for you too; that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you. If you can help somebody who is in sorrow and pain; Then you can say to God at night....my day was not in vain. And now I am contented... that my life was worthwhile. Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile. So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low; just lend a hand to pick them up, as on your way you go. When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind; I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind. And when it's time for you to go...from that body to be free. Remember you're not going...you're coming here to me.

sandra, although i never knew your son i'm sure he was a fine young man. i did however know darriel and your family with fond memories. went to work with your dad on the bread route in 1953. visited amiel at the store shortly before his death and often think of him and your family. ron e. peach  mt. carmel, ill.

We are so sorry about your loss.  We will miss him at our annual mini-reunions of the MCHS Class of '59 when he brought Sandy and Kenny.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.  The MCHS Class of 1959.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Bonnie, Linda, Sandy, and all.  We are so saddened to hear of your loss.

Garverick's  - -  So, so saddened to hear of Derriel's passing.  It was such a pleasure knowing him.  He truly was a devoted Tecumseh fan.  He is one of our fondest memories from that time in our lives and how much he thought of Kaleb.  Not only then, but when they worked together at Tri-state.  No body can miss him as much as his family, but know that you are not alone in your grief.

I met D.W. in 1970 at Dale Sales. Derriel,Ron.and I became inseperable friends. We boated, BBQ, Bowled and played softball. But the one thing that bonded Derriel and I was our love for fishing. When you went with D.W., anything could happen and He was always in the middle of it. 
   A few highlights.
Company car stolen in Nashville on the way to Biloxi. (He left the keys in it)
   I cut a fish hook out of his leg with a fillet knife.
He grabbed hold of a snake that had gotten in out live well.
   Snake got in his sleeping bag when we wee camping in Canada.
   The stories never stopped and I loved every moment we spent together.  He was a one man High Lite Show. Derriel was a people person, He never met a stranger, He was always the first person to help when something needed fixing at our house or Rons  or anyones.He called me last Friday afternoon,the reason for the call, He was worried about Rick. He hadn't seen or heard from him for two days and he wanted to know if I knew anything.
   That was Derriel, always looking after his friends. I miss you already. Check out the fishing holes and I'll catch you on the flip side.

Uncle Derriel was truly the most kind and loving man I've ever met. I'm so lucky he was my Uncle. He touched many peoples lives and will be greatly missed.

My heart is so sad for all of you.  I so glad to have re-connected with Derriel in the last few years.....I can hear his laugh in my mind.  He will be missed.  Linda, you are in my thoughts and prayers.  God bless you and your family.

My granddaughter and I met Derrill (and his buddies) at Donut Bank and have missed him the last few weeks.  May God be with all of you, his family and friends.  We will miss seeing him, but will remember what a sincere and nice man he was.  We are blessed to have met him!

Dear Linda, Bonnie, Sandy, Jennifer and entire family,
There are no words to truly express the sadness Mother, Johnny, myself and all that loved Derriel feel at his passing. I am so happy that Johnny got to know Derriel these last few months. He considered him a true friend. In all the years that Mother and I have known Derriel, I have never known anyone that did not think he was a wonderful person. We have all lost a true friend! The loss to your family is unimaginable between losing he and Bryan. I am so sorry I never got to know Bryan as I'm sure he was a wonderful young man.
