

Upon graduation from Rockport High School in 1944, Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After his honorable discharge, he began his life-long career with Indiana Bell Telephone Company in Tell City. Working at “Ma Bell” he met and married a telephone operator, Alberta Niemczyk. In1963, Don transferred to Evansville. His career took him to Winston-Salem, NC and Indianapolis. He retired in 1983 and he and Alberta moved back to Evansville to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Don was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, canoeing, swimming, scuba diving and golf. He was a member of Tell City Masonic Lodge #623, serving as Past Master, and also a member of Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine, York Rite, Centenary United Methodist Church and Telephone Pioneers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Dawson; sister, Fran D. Hollett; and his parents.
Donald is survived by his daughter, Debra (Roger) Latham; son, Dale Dawson; grandchildren, Zachary (Melissa) Latham, Christopher Dawson, Drew Dawson and April (Phil) McCutchan; great-grandchildren, Kyle Wallace and Samantha McCutchan; all of the Evansville area.
Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, December 30, 2013, at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Rev. Danny Walker and Rev. Randy Anderson, with burial in Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00, with a Masonic Service at 6:30 PM, at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bethel Manor for the love and respect they gave to Donald while he was in their care.
