

She was born to Cora (Knollman) and Oscar Fellwock and spent most of her life in Evansville, Indiana until she moved to Ohio when she was 88 to be near family. Doris and her late husband, Bob enjoyed traveling and dancing at the V.F.W. She loved reading, gardening, and playing cards. Doris was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy at the Brooklyn Naval Shipyards where she worked in payroll.
Doris was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She joyfully celebrated her last Thanksgiving in good health with all three of her great-grandsons at her side.
She is survived by children; Beth (John) Weinhardt, Westerville, Ohio, Bruce (Marci) Berning, Portland, Oregon, Ben (Michelle) Berning, Evansville, Indiana; grandchildren: Laura (Devon) Weinhardt, Westerville, Ohio, Alex (Rebecca) Weinhardt, Columbus, Ohio, Joel (Nellie) Berning, New York City, and Matthew Berning, Portland, Oregon, step-grandson Tyler Dockery, Evansville, Indiana; great-grandchildren Sam Wells Weinhardt, Johannes Berning and Oscar Berning; sister Betty Elder of Port Townsend, Washington; sister-in-law Dot Berning, Evansville, Indiana and brother-in-law Don Berning, Evansville, Indiana and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert G. Berning, sisters Jane Hurley and Nancy Nelson, brothers Clyde Fellwock and Billy Fellwock.
A memorial visitation will be held at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN on Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 10:30 a.m to 11:30 a.m. with a service to follow at 11:30 am officiated by her grandson, Chaplain Joel Berning at the funeral home.
