died peacefully in her home of natural causes in Evansville, Indiana, age 100.
Dorothy was born in Evansville to parents Chalmer and Maud (Crawley) Lynch and was preceded in death by brothers Jack and Roy Lynch. Abraham Lincoln was her first cousin, six times removed.
After graduating from Bosse High School she celebrated 71 years of marriage to Earl Hugh Brown of Hugh L. Brown and Sons, until his death in 2010. She was a devoted wife, a loving Mother and a loyal friend to those fortunate enough to know her.
Throughout her many years as an active member of her community, she shared a wide range of knowledge in history and archeology. Dorothy spent many years as the president of Parent Teacher Association and tutoring for The Association for the Blind. Up to her final days, Dorothy’s eyes were as sharp as a hawk. She was wickedly smart and feisty. She will be greatly missed and remembered often.
Dorothy is survived by many nieces and nephews and her son Gary H Brown, Emeritus Professor of Art at the University of California at Santa Barbara.
In her final years, Shirley Rupprecht took Dorothy under her wings as her primary care provider. Shirley’s intrinsic warmth and dedication were unparalleled. Her use of humor and humility carried Dorothy with the upmost joy in a secure and loving manner.
Thanks to all the friends and family who offered time and support to Dorothy over the years, especially Sam Greenwell, Dr. Lori Lynch and Julie Blevins, Tom Lynch, Dr. Elizabeth Francis, Rita Evans as well as Steve Yates and the dedicated Hospice professionals.
