

She was formerly employed by Deaconess Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide and Orthopedic Technician until she was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease in 1981. Until his death on April 10, 2010, Dorothy was cared for at home by her devoted husband of 61 years, “Bo”, and their youngest daughter, Linda. Assisting Bo and Linda for the past 12 years was Jane Wright, a very dedicated and loving caregiver, and most recently, Kathy Rice, a longtime family friend.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Theo “Ted/Bo” Goans (2010); daughter, Pauline “Polly” Fisher (2009); parents, Pauline and August Kohl; and stepmother, Emma Kohl.
She is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Karen) Goans and Steve (Becky) Goans; daughters, Patty (Gary) Mueller, Peggy (Bob) Bruning and Linda Goans; brothers, James (Sharon) Kohl and Donald (Judie) Kohl; grandchildren, Kelly (Paul) Snider, Kyle (Vanessa) Goans of Brooklyn, NY, Kate Chambers, Matt and Leslie Goans, Christine, Kathleen and Rachel Mueller and Christa Bruning; and great-grandson, Braydon Litteken.
Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel of Remembrance, 2200 Mesker Park Drive, with burial to follow. Friends may visit Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 West Illinois Street.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Deaconess Hospice Care staff, especially nurses Lori Reynolds and Lisa Moore, for their special care and support throughout this past year.
