Dottie was actively involved at Trinity Lutheran Church Darmstadt where she attended church and Sunday school every Sunday. She enjoyed attending church retreats and served on numerous committees. Dottie was a longtime member of the handbell choir. As a newlywed, Dottie traveled to New Guinea to do mission work with her husband, Jim. She taught Sunday School to the children, and also taught sewing and typing.
Dottie always enjoyed traveling and visited almost all of the 50 states as well as numerous countries including the Holy Land. She always loved to sew and made clothes for herself and her entire family. She enjoyed quilting, making banners for church and did some painting as well. Dottie loved to cook and garden and play in the dirt. She always remained active including square dancing and teaching water aerobics at Lloyd Pool.
Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her crazy family. She enjoyed the vacations we spent together as well as all of the many family gatherings. There were always many laughs during our times together and you could hear her contagious laughter above everyone else. Dottie prepared for family gatherings at her house with hours of baking and numerous lists of things to prepare.
Dottie treasured the friendships with her Clabber Club who played cards together for over 60 years. In her twilight years she and Jim spent afternoons driving through the country side and spent Sunday nights in a competitive game of the card game, Manipulation
