There was nothing Ernie enjoyed more than spending time with his family. He enjoyed simply talking around a campfire or watching IU basketball and Notre Dame Irish football. He passed along his love of simple enjoyments to his children. As time passed, he was able to see his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow to appreciate the same simple pleasures. He will be most missed when we sit outside and enjoy the songs of the birds. He served in the US Army and Navy and was a Korean War Veteran. Ernie was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and worked for Honeywell and the Evansville Housing Authority.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; foster parents, Hershel and Grace Goodman; brother, Donald Ray Sears; and sister, Shirley Hagan.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Clara Jean (Alvey) Sears; sons, James (Sarah) Sears of Bowling Green, KY and David (Amy) Sears of Washington, IL; daughters, Elizabeth Hill of Evansville, IN and Deborah (John) Healey of LaVista, NE; grandchildren, Rachel Hill, Jessica Mahon, Jack and Meghan Sears, and Katie, Jack, Rielly and Ben Healey; great-grandchildren, Angel, Eian, Brandon, Teagan and Cole Mahon; and sister, Jeanette Goodsen of Evansville, IN.
The family would like to thank SouthernCare Hospice, Bill Akers and Jessica Mahon for their care.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, March 21, 2015, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 100 E. Michigan St., Evansville, IN 47711, officiated by Pastor Matthew Schilling, with burial in Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may visit Saturday from 11:00 AM until service time at the church.
