He was in the Army Airborne Division 82nd and 101st. Ernest was a qualified elevator inspector and owned and operated River City Elevator Company.
He enjoyed collecting antiques, especially advertisement pieces, playing chess, billiards, ping-pong. He could ride a unicycle and enjoyed skydiving. He loved playing golf at Eagle Valley Golf Course in McCutchanville.
Woody was well known for playing golf with one hand. The ball did not go very far, but it was straight and accurate. He won several golf tournaments and it was quite a sight to see.
He was a very compassionate man and helped many people. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Drina Arguello Wood; son, Matt Wood; daughters, Sienna Wood and Jamie Wood; and grandchild, Kayden Fenwick.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S Green River Rd. Evansville, IN 47715. Friends may visit from 5:30 – 6:30 Wednesday at the church.
