

Ethelda Elizabeth Schmidt, 84, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013, at Hamilton Pointe. She was born May 10, 1929, in Evansville, to the late Christ and Katherine Freund.
She graduated from Central High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Norfolk, VA. She worked for ABC Store and Woolsey’s Toy Store before retiring from Hill’s Department Store. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, loved cats and butterflies, and loved her family very much.
Ethelda was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Schmidt; father, Christ Freund; mother, Katherine Freund; sisters, Vera Morgan and Katherine Durham; brothers, Melvin Freund, Chris Freund, Albert Brandenberger and Elmer Brandenberger.
She is survived by her sons, Michael and Lawrence Schmidt; daughters, Cynthia (Larry) Horn and Susan Unfried; grandchildren, Christopher (Erica) Schmidt, Matthew and Lindsay Horn, Tyler, Jake and Joe Unfried, Shannon (Eric) Housman, LeighAnn (Elton) Pruitt and Ashley (Kyle) Crook; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Mass will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River Rd, Evansville, IN 47715, officiated by Father Jeff Read, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel.
The family would like to thank the staff of HealthSouth and Hamilton Pointe for their kind and compassionate care of their mother. Ethelda was cared for by her sons and daughters. The family would especially like to thank our brother, Mike, for his lifelong care of our mother.
