Evelyn Ann Johnson Larsen died peacefully on September 8, 2024 at the age of 92. She was born to Dorothy Marie Clark and Alger Johnson on August 15, 1932 in Greenville, Michigan. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1950. She attended Albion College for one year before beginning her training at Sparrow Nursing School in Lansing, Michigan. Near the completion of her nursing degree, she married Ferris I Larsen “secretly” as nurses in training at that time were not allowed to be married. In spite of their well documented church wedding, reception and honeymoon, her marital status was revealed at a graduation party where it turned out there were many such revelations amongst her classmates! Evelyn’s nursing career was short lived when she began raising her family of 5 children while supporting Ferris in his medical career. They served in the Public Health Service in Oklahoma before settling in Kentucky.
Evelyn was a devoted mother and community volunteer, living out her lifelong Methodist faith in serving others. She was incredibly gifted with needle and thread, and her dedication to perfection was evident in many beautiful pieces of handiwork.
She is survived by her children Tim Larsen of Tampa, FL, Beth McCord (Greg) of Evansville, IN, Wendy Lamb (Paul) of Springfield, TN, Amy Lynch (George) of Nashville, TN, and Pamela Clark of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren Sarah Moreau (Eric), Mitchell McCord, Rob McCord (Monica), Michael Lamb (Bethany), Hannah Lamb, Henry Lynch (Hannah), Haynes Lynch and Madelyn Neal; great-grandchildren Leona, Oliver, Jack and Willa Moreau, Isaiah and Joshua Lamb, and Henry Mccord. She is also survived by her brother Robert Johnson and predeceased by her sister Karen Johnson Canzano.
A private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Earlington Methodist Church (P. O. Box 126, Earlington, KY 42410) or Gentiva Hospice (5401 Vogel Road, Suite 740, Evansville, IN 47715).
