Frederick L. (Bud) Hicks Jr., 94, 2020, passed away Saturday, April 18, at American Village Assisted Living in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born in New York City on January 23, 1926.
Frederick attended Winchester, MA public schools and graduated from Tufts University, Medford, MA, in 1949. Bud served in the United States Army Air Force during WWII.
He married the love of his life, his “princess”, Elizabeth D. (Betty) Hicks, in 1949, in Canton, MA. Their only child, Jeffrey, was born in Boston in 1950.
A career opportunity with Atlas Van Lines brought them to Evansville in 1967, where they became lifelong residents and members of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He left Atlas and went to work for J.H. Service Co., retiring in 1996.
In 1972, a charismatic prayer group was founded in their home on Winston Rd. It grew from eight curious attendees to a group of 1,000 members during its 18 year life.
Bud’s home for the last two years has been American Village Assisted Living in Indianapolis. The family would like to recognize and thank the wonderful staff of caregivers for the love, kindness, and care he received from them during his stay.
Bud was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty, in 2012.
He is survived by son, Jeffrey; daughter-in-law, Judy; and grandchildren, Sarah and Joshua.
No funeral services will be held due to the health risks posed by Covid-19. A memorial service will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 918 West Mill Road, Evansville, at a later date. He will be entombed at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
