

He enjoyed playing pool, golf, and video games. Gary was an avid storm chaser and loved being at the beach. He was a Star Wars and Survivor fan who always had his Mt. Dew on hand. Gary was a hard worker and could fix anything, and was always selflessly putting everyone before himself. He was devoted to his family and adored his grandchildren. He was a truck driver for several companies throughout his career.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Schaefer; and brother, Michael Strange.
He is survived by his children, Adam Schaefer, Melissa Will (Andy), Sydney Schaefer, Brynn Schaefer, Damien Smitha (Samantha), and Tyler Smitha (David Johnson); and grandchildren, Aidan Schaefer, Shaylin Wells, Karson Goad, Averian Schaefer, Chloe Will, Keelan Turner, Ivan Smitha, Rowan Johnson, and Asher Denton; and companion, Tammy Hodge.
A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday March 2, 2023 at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Jay Burns. Friends and family may visit from 4:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home, and after the service until 8pm.
