

Mr. Woodruff was Divisional Vice President of Credithrift Financial/American General Finance when he retired in 1985 and had been a 40 year employee in several management positions. He graduated from Madisonville High School Class of 1937. He was a graduate of Indiana University Executive Program and the University of Columbia Credit Conference.
George was very active in various State Consumer Finance Associations and served on the Operations Committee of the American Financial Service Association. He served on the Board of Directors at various times in the State of Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Louisiana, Florida and Georgia. He served on the Legislative and Executive Committee in the State of Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina and North Carolina. He received the Distinguished Service Award from North Carolina in 1984.
He was a 58 year member of East Side Christian Church, where he served as Fiscal Officer, Elder, Deacon and on various church committees, his favorite was the Day Care Board. He was a former member of Rolling Hills Country Club, Eagles, American Legion, Central Turners, Jaycees, Rotary, Lions, Newburgh Masonic Lodge, Hadi Shrine, Scottish Rite, Jesters and Thirty-Fourth Club. He was also a Kentucky Colonel, Tennessee Aide – DECAMP and Endowment Member of Hopkins County Historical Society. George was an Air Force Veteran, serving in World War II.
George was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Ruth H. Woodruff.
He is survived by his son, Mark C. Woodruff (Traci) of Evansville; grandchildren, Courtney, Brennan and Maddie; and step-grandchildren, Adam and Seth Horty.
Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 11, 2011, at East Side Christian Church, 2001 Bayard Park Drive., officiated by Elder Stephen R. Best, where a reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Friends may visit Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, and Monday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
