

She received her Bachelor's degree at Indiana State and her Masters degree at the University of Evansville. She was a Recreational Therapist at Welborn Hospital and Parkside Lodge Mulberry Center. She was a substitute teacher and an assistant to the girls’ basketball coach at Reitz High School. Her first job was as a teacher in Kentland, IN. She retired from Ivy Tech in March as the Director of Fitness and Wellness. In 2012 she won the Staff Award for excellence. She also received a grant while she was at Welborn to start a wellness and fitness center which she ran for ten years at Ivy Tech.
Gloria was on the board of “Smoke Free Evansville” and served on the Board of Youth First where she was a leader of the Strengthening Families Program and an Adventure Facilitator. She was also a member of St. Paul’s UCC where she was an elder and was on the council. Gloria coordinated the first women’s basketball team for the Senior Olympics in 2005. She also loved her “Y Buddies” and successfully completed four half marathons in 2006-2008.
She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Barbara Gayle Sprinkle in June 2013; and her mother-in-law, Doris Schwartz.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Tom Schwartz of Evansville; daughter, Michele (James) Blankenship of Boonville; son, Chad Schwartz of Evansville; grandchildren, Arielle, Jacob and Ashleigh Blankenship; brothers, Gary Sprinkle and Richard (Barbara Ann) Sprinkle, both of Evansville; lifelong friend and caregiver, Pam Strasser; father-in-law, Melvin Schwartz; sister-in-law, Jane (John) Hodge; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, December 2, 2013, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 2227 West Michigan Street, officiated by Rev. Lynn Marino, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 West Illinois Street.
