

Ilene V. (Espenlaub) Fleming, 103, of Evansville, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023. She was born on October 11, 1920 in Warrick County, Indiana to the late Edward and Marie (Deusner) Espenlaub.
She attended Purdue University under a 4-H Scholarship, and earned a teaching degree in Home Economics. Ilene taught for 20 years at F.J. Reitz High School in Evansville. Ilene enjoyed crocheting and gifting her handmade items to others. She was an avid bridge player. Ilene lived her life by following the philosophy of live, laugh, and love.
Ilene was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, George Fred Fleming; brother, Wilfred L. Espenlaub; sister, Mildred Rudolph; and grandson, John T. Fleming.
She is survived by sons, Robert Fleming (Wanda), Thomas Fleming (Sally Dwyer), and Edward Fleming (Marsha Salee); daughter-in-law, Gretchen Fleming; grandchildren, Daniel M. Fleming (Mandi), Alan R. Fleming (Anne), Julie M. Park (Matthew), Dana Fleming (Christine), Michael Fleming (Kristina), and Richard Fleming (Buffy); 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her family extends a thank you to the staff of Good Samaritan / Envive and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and compassion.
Her Life Celebration will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Alexander East Chapel with Rev. Joseph Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
