James “Doc Locke” Allan Lockard, 75, of Evansville, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015, at Deaconess Gateway. He was born May 3, 1940, in Griffin, Indiana to Pauline and William Lockard.
Jim joined Indiana Bell after leaving the military. He retired from Alcatel-Lucent in 1996 after 30 years, working as a repair technician in the business sector. While in Indianapolis, he took care of communications at Raceway Park in Speedway, IN, National Drags, Indiana State Fair, and took care of the headsets for the blind at the Shrine Circus.
He joined the Air Force in 1962 and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a marksmanship instructor in Rifle and Pistol. Jim taught classes at NASA and Atomic Energy Commission, Chemical, Biological, and Radiological classes were taught at the Saudia Base. Jim received the Good Conduct Medal, outstanding unit citations, Oak Leaf Cluster and was assigned to SAC.
He liked to fish and hunt and did so until he became ill. He loved his dogs and always had three or four. He and his grandson, Josh, had restored a ’49 Ford truck that was his pride and joy.
Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon; daughters, Stacey Hauschild (Carl David) and Shannon Lockard; brother, William (Shirley); grandsons, Josh and Tyler Lane; niece, Laura Carey; nephew, Mike Lockard and family; dogs, Memphis, Daisy, and Clyde.
To my husband: We had a romance that was silly and sweet and sometimes different, but was always what we needed. We knew each other, trusted each other, and loved each other. Sharing 52 years with you will make the days ahead mean so much more.
