

James T. Whipkey (Jim), 93, of Evansville passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024. He was born April 20, 1931 in Connellsville, PA. He married the love of his life, Linda, in 1954. Over the next five years they had three children.
In 1961 they moved from Connellsville to Evansville, IN to begin a new career. He worked for S.I.G.E.C.O for 31 years, retiring in 1993 as Superintendent for Gas Construction and Maintenance.
Aside from being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he had served in many capacities for civic and social service organizations. As a longtime member of Old North Methodist Church, he served in a number of capacities on their board and taught Sunday School with his wife Linda. He was also active with their Boy Scout Troop #336, serving as their assistant Scout Master.
He was very active in various Masonic affiliations. As a Master Mason, he served as Master of Lessing Lodge #464 (one of his proudest moments was raising his two sons to Master Mason at the same time). He was also Master of the Daylight Lodge. He was active in Scottish Rite (and there were many degrees). He served as director of the 20th Degree for many years and in addition was the most Wise Commander of Rose Croix. He achieved the 33rd Degree, which is the highest honor achievable. He also served with the Hadi Shrine Hospital Transport Staff. He always had a kind word for all he met and worked to improve everyone’s situation. He truly had a life well lived.
Jim is survived by hie sons, James T. Whipkey II (Diane) and Bruce K. Whipkey (Leslie); daughter, Carol D. Whipkey (Sheila); grandson, A.J. (Chelsea); granddaughter, Sarah (Jon); grandson, Michael (Nisha); and grandson, Tim. He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Daniel, Isabelle, Liam, and Briella.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Alexander North Chapel. Friends and family may visit on Saturday from 10:30 am until service time, with a Masonic Memorial Service conducted by Lessing Lodge #464 and Daylight Masonic Lodge #752, and Scottish Rite walk-through beginning at 12:00 pm.
