

Jay “Daddy Rabbit” M. Ayers, 66, of Haubstadt, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016, at Deaconess Hospital. He was born October 16, 1949, in Evansville, to the late Earl and Anna (Shelton) and adoptive mother, Helen (Elkridge) Ayers.
He graduated from Reitz High School in 1967, where he played Varsity baseball and football. He retired from Job Corp in Morganfield, KY as a Plaster and Cement Mason instructor. He was passionate about making a difference in the lives of his students. Jay enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, playing horseshoes, riding his Harley, IU basketball, Colts football, and spending time with the love of his life, Jan, his family and his friends. Jay was a very compassionate person who always put the needs of others before his own. He was a jokester and could make anybody laugh. He never met a stranger and he always had a smile on his face.
Jay is survived by his wife, Jan (Meeks) Ayers; sons, Matt (Kristy) and J. Ryan (Margaux) Ayers; stepchildren, Amber (Thomas) Young, Brandt (fiancé, Brianna) and Trevor George; grandchildren, Cody, Ayden, Xzavier, and Baby Ayers on the way; brother, Jack Ayers; half-sisters, Earline and Betty; best K9 buddy, Harley; favorite uncle, Rusty Bryant; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Alexander East Chapel, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and Wednesday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
