 Obituario de JoAnn Stock
JoAnn Stock, 87, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at her home of 65 years. She was born on January 9, 1933, in Mt.Vernon, Indiana to the late Roy Lee Duckworth and Clara (Hahn) Duckworth. JoAnn moved around a lot as a child and spent a great deal of her childhood in Mt. Vernon, Indiana with cousins, grandparents, and great grandparents. She then moved to the North side of Evansville where she went to Highland Grade School and attended Salem United Church of Christ. JoAnn graduated from Reitz High School in 1951 where she met her “Sugarfoot”, Herman. Herman and JoAnn met as hall monitors at Reitz High School, where he eventually got the courage to ask JoAnn on a date. JoAnn worked as a bookkeeper at Faultless Castor. They then got engaged in 1952, married in 1953, and finally settled down on the Westside and started a family in 1954, when she became a devoted wife and mother. During those early years JoAnn and her other close neighbors, especially Janice Pease, her life-long friend, watched over and raised their growing families. As the children grew up, JoAnn and Herman (who only called each other “Babe”) traveled and enjoyed all the Hadi Shrine activities, especially with the Hadi Shrine Funsters. JoAnn was a member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile for over 50 years. She was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church where she volunteered at the church food bank and also at a children’s disability center. After Herman’s retirement, they enjoyed antiquing, going to auctions, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She loved to sing in her “operatic” voice while cleaning the house and was an avid crocheter. She made sure each one of her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids had a crocheted afghan. JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Herman J. Stock (August 6, 2020); parents; and brother, David Duckworth. JoAnn is survived by her children, Debra Velders (Jerry), Herman Lee Stock (Debi), Tamra Johnson, and DeDra Deig (Rick); grandchildren, Joshua W. Velders MSgt USAF SCANG, Crystal England (Major Jacob England DDS, MS, USA), Amanda Goebel (Ben), Shelley Brown (Seth), Nathan Stock (Jordan), Sunny Rowley (Josh), Clara Sandefur (Tommy), Madilyn Johnson, Amy Stewart (Michael), Adam Deig (fiancée Kristi and son Silas), and Alivia Grogan (Adam); 16 great grandchildren, Adianne Jolie Velders; Cova, Hollis, Rosalee, and Kizzie Mae England; Elijah, and Sawyer Goebel; Madalyn Burress, Chase, and Zachary Brown; Kade and Wrenlee Stock; Raylan, and Vincent Sandefur; Dalton and Ava Stewart; and nephews and niece, David Brown, Daniel Brown, Kim Johann and their families.
