

Joel Van Hooser, 85, of Newburgh, IN, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026. He was born in Crofton, KY and had lived locally since 1955. Joel was the second of two children born to Arklie and Esther Van Hooser of Evansville. Arklie died in 1990 and Esther passed away in 2006.
Joel retired in 2001 as a business owner and ceramic tile installer. He previously worked in the engineering department at Bendix-Westinghouse and briefly for Heidorn Construction He was also a previous member of Carpenters Local 90.
He graduated from F.J. Reitz high school in 1959. After failing an eye exam to enter the Air Force, he took two semesters of vocational training locally. He also attended bible college at the Madisonville Baptist Temple.
He was a member at First Southern Baptist Church in Evansville. Joel was ordained as a deacon in the General Baptist Association at Camp Brosend, Newburgh, IN in 1964. He had served in that capacity at three separate churches. In recent years, he found great pleasure in giving to local and international organizations to assist in feeding and helping meet the basic needs of food, clothing and shelter for unfortunate individuals. His donations helped to pass along literature that provided a message of hope for the hopeless and unsaved.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Nick Van Hooser; sister, Lavon Gray; and brother-in-law, Jim Gray.
Joel is survived by his wife, Donna Faye Van Hooser, they were married on February 10, 1961. He is also survived by his son, Danny Van Hooser (Leda); daughter, Deborah Stahl (Eric); grandchildren, Danielle Kingery (Justin), Adrianna McCarter (Hunter), Brandy Stahl, and Jarret Stahl; great grandchildren, Liam Kingery, Adeline Kingery, Alaina McCarter, Mason Lee Titzer, Alexander Van Hooser and Madelyn June Van Hooser; step great grandchildren, Braxton and Carson McCarter.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Ave., officiated by Pastor Gayle Russ, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery. Family and friends may visit 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Monday, March 30, 2026 at the funeral home.
