John served on the Perry Township Fire department and was Fire Chief for 20 years. He was a train dispatcher for L&N and CSX Railroad. He had a passion to help his community and did so in a variety of ways, including taking part in the first EMT class in Evansville and helping launch public events such as CPR Day. John’s family extends a special thanks to his caregivers.
John was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Pat Barr; daughter, Paula Claspell; grandson, Tyler Barr.
He is survived by his son, Gary Barr (Jessica); granddaughter, Madison Barr; grandson, David Claspell; step granddaughters, Juliana, Joy and Jenna Pajdo.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Alexander West Chapel with entombment to follow at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit 3-7 PM Friday August 31, 2018 at the funeral home, and 12 PM Saturday until time of service.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department or SWIRCA.
