Kim was born on August 13, 1960 to Eugene (Gene) A. Koch and Judith A. (Holder) Koch in Evansville, IN. She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, where she was baptized and confirmed. She graduated from Evansville Central High School in 1978, EVSC Surgical Tech School in 1979, and the University of Evansville School of Nursing class of 1982 where she was a member of AOπ sorority. Upon graduation from UE Kim fulfilled her love of being a surgical nurse at Deaconess Hospital, Midtown and Gateway, and Evansville Surgery Center over the next 30+ years. Kim was a very caring, giving, and loving woman which complemented her profession. She was well-known as “Mama Kim” to all her boys’ friends.
She is pre-deceased by her loving Dad, Eugene “Gene” A. Koch in 2019.
Kim is survived by her three devoted sons, Adam K. (Samantha) Akin, Andrew A. Akin, and Aaron J. (Cassidy) Akin, her mother, Judy Koch, brothers Karl G. (Kelly) Koch, and Kent A. (Tammy) Koch, a precious grandson, Cillian Allan Akin, aunt, Brenda J. (Holder) Willner, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, officiated by Rev. Emily Slade, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Alexander North Chapel.
