Larry Griesemer, 63, passed away June 5, 2012. He was born in Baggs, WY to Emanuel “Blackie” Griesemer and Alma Orene (Loveless) Griesemer. Larry grew up and lived in the Princeton area many years before moving to Evansville.
Larry enjoyed woodworking, carving birds, was an avid photographer, and attended events involving his children and grandchildren. Sometimes known as “handyman,” many friends and neighbors benefitted from his knowledge and ability to make home or vehicle repairs. “Pop” or “Papaw Larry” dearly loved his grandchildren and honorary grandchildren, who held a special place in his heart. He worked at Duke Energy from 1978 – 2006 and retired after 28 years. Larry served his community well as a member and photographer for Scott Township Volunteer Fire Department and was a former board member of Scott Township Park. The fire department offered many opportunities other than photography including training, participation in fundraising events, cooking, and washing trucks and ambulances. His photographs were taken for and shared with McCutchanville and German Volunteer Fire Departments among others. Several hours were spent in Scott Township Park as he worked, enjoyed nature, visited with friends and relaxed on the dock many evenings.
Preceded in death by his parents, he was blessed with siblings Kenneth Griesemer (Judy), Barbara Dunn (Jim) and Susan Sullivan. Other survivors include his wife of 16 years, Jenny (Titzer) Griesemer, a blended family including seven children; Lori Martin (Ora), Jeff Griesemer, Russell Griesemer (Erica), Jon Griesemer (Jackie), Matthew Morris (Ellen), Adam Morris, and Samuel Morris (Ashly), fourteen grandchildren; Ashlee McGrew, BreeAnna McGrew, Tyler Martin, Kennedy Griesemer, Alex Griesemer, Christian Griesemer, Anna Griesemer, Joshua Griesemer, Kendall Griesemer, Tristan Morris, Tate Crowe, Trenton Morris, Rook Morris, Ellie Morris, three great-grandchildren. In addition he leaves his friend and mother of his children, Carol Dawson Griesemer.
Larry was loved by his in-laws Howard and Jan Titzer, Bill Titzer, Kris Pursell (Mike) and Mike Titzer.
The firefighters, paramedics and EMTs of Scott Township receive special thanks for the friendship, love and care given to Larry as well as St. Mary’s Home Healthcare and VistaCare Hospice.
Services were held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 8, 2012 at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Dr. Robert Asa with burial at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Francisco, IN. Friends visited Thursday from 2:00 to 800 PM at the funeral home.
