He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Anna Sue & Larry Ray of Graytown, OH. Joe was born in Louisa, KY, the son of Anna Ruth (Bowen) & John A. Pack. He retired in 2007 from New London Local Schools where he had spent the majority of his career. Joe was greatly beloved and admired by his students, many of whom remained in touch with him during his retirement. For multiple summers Joe was a Master Teacher in Environmental Science for Miami University’s Geology Field Station in Wyoming as part of the university’s Ohio Elementary Teachers program. He was honored by Ashland Inc. in 1997 as one of ten statewide recipients of its Teacher Achievement Award. In New London, where he resided 30 years in the home he designed and built himself, Joe was a Boy Scout troop leader, Little League coach, and Rotary Club member. In 2012 Joe and Sally relocated to Evansville, IN, to enjoy being grandparents. A lifelong instrumentalist, he played guitar with the Southern Hollow Dulcimer & Folk Group and Shade Tree Players. He was a member of IKI Woodturners Club, volunteered as Santa, enjoyed fishing, stained glass, art, cooking, and travel to US National Parks. He and his wife were lighthouse enthusiasts and saw 452 lighthouses in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, and Ireland over the course of 20 years. Joe’s family thanks oncologist Dr. Sheryl Ziegler, the caring personnel at St. Vincent's Infusion Center, Heritage Hospice and Horizons Personal Care Services.
