Laura was a performer through and through and spread joy wherever she could. She grew up in a musical family and the music definitely lived in her. She had a wonderful voice, loved music, theater, art, and was known to burst into a song at any time, with the mere mention of words from a song verse. She was both a performer and patron of the arts, a member of the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus, a long time member of the Old North Church choir, a band mate of her sister Deborah, including the Town Cryers and Fools Gold, and an infamous member of the the trio, the Big Hair Girls. She also loved the theater and performed in musicals and plays at the Evansville Civic Theater, the Totally New Theater, RPE theater and STAGEtwo Productions. Laura graduated from North High School and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from the University of Evansville.
Throughout her career and life, she always sought answers to difficult problems and was always ready to lend a hand whether it was digging in your yard or digging out an item for a Halloween costume. She was fierce, opinionated, outspoken and always stood up for what was right. If you mentioned something you needed, she would show up with it the next time you saw her or would leave it for you on your front porch. Laura loved to travel. She had friends all over the world and never met a stranger. Laura loved working in her garden and refused to let anything stand in the way of her yard work. She was a master gardener, who loved growing flowers, vegetables, bringing plants back to life and getting stubborn orchids to bloom.
Laura was a strong woman and a rock for her family. She was loyal to her family, especially her two sons and grandchildren. She raised two boys and supported everything they were involved in. She encouraged them to go out into the world, but reminded them that they could always come home. She loved all of her grandchildren. She cherished her years in California watching Olivia, Wyatt and Parker grow and loved to visit Margot and Egan in Germany.
Laura was a kind, generous, courageous mom, sister, friend and coworker. She is survived by her sons, Andy Beck (Sarah) and Chris Beck (Elizabeth); grandchildren, Olivia, Wyatt, Parker, Margot, and Egan; her four sisters affectionately known as the “Crazy Aunts”, Diane Leggett (Bob), Deborah McBride, Robin Riley, and Kim Anderson (Scott); many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
