Loretta Volice Mackey Schofield was born October 9, 1937 and was the oldest of six children. She attended Baker grade school where she played the snare drum. She went on to graduate in 1955 from Central High School where she played the bass drum in the marching band. While she was in high school she worked at Woolworth’s until it closed. She married her husband, Howard E. Schofield in 1956. After his death, she reentered the workforce and worked at Ben Franklin Craft until it closed.
Loretta participated in local craft fairs sell all her creations. She loved to knit, crochet, sew, tole paint, and lace tatting. She was forty-four year breast cancer survivor. She bowled in multiple leagues at Arc Lanes. She was an avid Boston Celtics, Minnesota Vikings, and St. Louis Cardinals fan. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, room mother, and a school volunteer whenever her children needed. She was always a cheerleader for her children and granddaughters in their many endeavors. She was a member of Union United Church of Christ and volunteered in the choir and vacation bible school.
Our heartfelt “Thank You” to Dr. William Hardesty and staff, the entire staff at Bethel Manor who became a second family and kept her safe and secure throughout her stay, and a special thank you to Derek and his team from Omni Hospice for their compassion and care through her final days.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. Schofield; son, Howard E. Schofield, II; father, Henry Mackey; mother, Mary Lee Davenport; step-father, O.C. Davenport; and brothers, Darrell Mackey, Jerry Davenport, and George Davenport.
Loretta is survived by her daughter, Volice Eberhard; her granddaughters, Kiley Eberhard, Kacey Eberhard, and Jenna Schofield; sister, Darlene Davenport; brother, Nick Mackey (Brenda) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Private Services will be held. Entombment will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
