Marilyn graduated from St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana and Villa Schifanoia, in Florence, Italy. Marilyn taught elementary school in Esquipulas, Guatemala; Boonville, Indiana; and Evansville, Indiana. She also taught Secondary Art at Bishop Knoll Institute in Hammond, Indiana.
Marilyn worked at the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art, did home visitations as a Hospice volunteer, and volunteered in local elementary schools.
Marilyn loved traveling with family and her husband, Leo, often to exotic locations. She fulfilled a lifelong dream by visiting Anghor in Cambodia, but returned frequently to her adopted home town, Florence, Italy.
Marilyn’s greatest honor was living a full and enriched life with a unique and always interesting husband, Leo B. Schultheis, and two equally unique and loving children: Joab Niklaus Schultheis and Lea Maryanna Unfried. She treasured the addition of a perfect daughter-in-law and son-in-law and won the lottery with the joy and enjoyment of 11 beautiful grandchildren.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Leo B. Schultheis, and by brother and sisters Thomas Habig, Nancy Ruth Habig, and Margaret Ann Habig.
She is survived by son Joab and Jenn Schultheis, and daughter Lea and Benjamin Unfried; grandchildren Jacob, Luke, Peyton, Lillian, Cecilia, William, Sabina, Greydon, Rosemary, Hope, and Grace; and brothers and sister John and Doug Habig, and Barbara Habig.
A special thanks to Oncology Hematology and Associates staff, St. Mary’s Infusion Center staff and Deaconess VNA Plus Home Care and Hospice staff for their professional and compassionate care.
