Mark graduated from North High School, where he was a scholar athlete. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame for football as a running back. He also participated in wrestling and track. Mark attended Austin Peay State University. He was a line worker at Sabic (formerly GE) for over 35 years and was on his way to retirement on January 18, 2022. He was a Christian and he loved the Lord. Mark was a devoted Dallas Cowboys football fan. He loved to listen to music and sing karaoke. Mark was always there for his children. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his by his daughters, La’Toya R. Garrett (J.D.) and Terelle L. (Garrett) Robertson (Michael); son, Marcus L. Garrett; their mother, Linda Garrett; grandchildren, Mikeal, Mi’Auna, Mike Jr., Stori, and Lyric; goddaughter, Jayda Thomas; godson, David Farmer, Jr.; sister, Cynthia Jennings (Tim); brother, Cornell Garrett (Liz); aunts, Elizabeth Hawkins and Barbara Wade; and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Memorial Baptist Church, 645 E. Canal Street, officiated by Rev. Adrian M. Brooks, Sr., with entombment in Oak Hill Mausoleum. Friends may visit Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
