Mark Alan Sloat

Mark A. Sloat, 68, went on to be with the Lord on July 22, 2021 while holding his wife’s hand at home. He was born April 17, 1953, the first of six children to be born to the late William and Joy Sloat. Mark was a passionate law enforcement officer that retired from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office as a Sergeant in 2004, after 21 years of service as a Deputy Sheriff. Mark’s love for law enforcement led him to continue his line of duty after retirement working as a Town Marshal in Haubstadt, IN, then as a Security Officer for Securitas. Mark was a 1971 graduate of Bosse High School and attended the University of Southern Indiana. He graduated from Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in March 1984. He loved the Lord and enjoyed attending church at The Cathedral with his loving wife, Beverly. He was also a member of the Reed Lodge 316, Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine, and FOP Lodge #73. Mark was survived by his wife of 20 years, Beverly; step-children, Penny (Jeremy) Gerbig and Tony Nichols; step-grandchildren, Gracelin, Elijah, and Cory (Kendra) Randolph; step-great grandchildren Isaiah and Emberlyn Randolph; brothers, Mike and Tim (Donna) Sloat; sisters, Karen Sloat, Judy Valceanu, and Janice (Jerry) Wade; as well as several nieces and nephews. Before he passed, he told Beverly, “I’ll be leaving the love of my life to be with the Lord.” “So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy.” – John 16:22 NLT Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Alexander East Chapel where a 6:30 p.m. Masonic Service will be conducted. An FOP Service will be held at a later date.
