Martha J. Schmitz

Martha J. (Krietenstein) Schmitz, 97, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Cypress Grove Rehabilitation. She was born on May 28, 1926, in Posey County, Indiana to the late Theodore and Florence (Dickaut) Krietenstein. Martha married Edward Schmitz on May 25, 1947 in Mt. Vernon, Indiana.

Martha was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Eckerty of Mt. Vernon and Dr. Chester Rycroft of Evansville. She was very proud of and enjoyed spending time with her grandsons. She enjoyed cooking, baking, going to school games and functions for them. Martha also enjoyed her beautiful flower garden.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Edward who served four years in the South Pacific with the US Army; parents; daughter, Dee Ann; brother, Don Krietenstein; and sister, Phyllis Wright.

She is survived by her son, Doug Schmitz (Valerie) of Newburgh; two grandsons, Dr. Samuel Schmitz (Cassie) of Newburgh and Zachary Schmitz of Evansville; and three great grandchildren of Newburgh.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, with entombment to follow. Friends may visit from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the park.
