

Mary Helen Hotz, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Sunday August 10th at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 57 years, Paul Dee Hotz; her father, Vernon Jasper “Dick” Ours; her mother, Margaret M. “Myrtle” Hoffman Ours; her sister, Myrna Louise (Ours) Thompson; and her brother, Lloyd O. Ours.
Mary Helen was born into a large and close family with her older sister Myrna, brothers Lowell and Lloyd, and younger sister Barbara. She graduated from Central High School in 1960, choosing to forego a college scholarship to begin her life with Paul. Together, they raised two sons, Mark and Bryan. In the early years of marriage, she worked some outside the home, but her main focus was caring for her family. She was a good cook, kept a very clean home, and took pride in making sure her children were well cared for.
She and Paul enjoyed an active life with many friends. They loved boating, camping, country line dancing, traveling, and spending time together. Family gatherings, especially during the holidays, were important to her, and all of the kids and grandkids made them joyful and memorable.
Mary Helen is survived by her sons, Bryan Hotz (Robin) and Mark Hotz (Janie); her brother, Lowell Ours (Linda)and her sister, Barbara Horton (Eddie), grandchildren, Joshua Hotz, Deena Miller, Deenece Hotz, Tristan Hotz, Anna Hotz, and MeiLi Hotz, five great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Rd. Evansville, IN, officiated by Pastor Steve Clayton, with burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends and family may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2025 and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
